Principal purpose of the role
Provide editorial leadership of account teams within the agency by taking responsibility for day-to-day client service and delivery. Manage the full range of high-quality medical communication services, effectively balancing elements of project management and editorial leadership with flexibility to enable writing/editing (according to each individual STL).
 
Core tasks/ responsibilities
 
INTERNAL LEADERSHIP
• Lead, coach and motivate Account/project teams: share best practice; provide support and guidance to team members on client and project issues
• Lead Account Team/project status meetings
• Provide a professional perspective on quality procedures and editorial processes within account • Contribute to short and long-term account resource planning, working with Line Managers help set development objectives of account team members
• Develop close working relationships with team members thereby enabling provision of regular feedback on performance, both directly and to Line Managers
• Work with and support other Scientific Team Leaders to ensure strong teamwork and best practice across accounts
 
CLIENT SERVICE
• Proactively drive projects through to completion
• Provide proactive ideas and creative input to assist and challenge clients’ own thinking/planning
• Effectively troubleshoot/handle objections from the client/opinion leaders to ensure continuing good relationships
• Liaise effectively with the client and opinion leaders, acting as the primary point of contact according to the requirements of the account
• Actively contribute to client/opinion leader meetings and facilitate these meetings as required
• Ensure any changes in the internal Account/project teams are managed and communicated appropriately with the client
 
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
• Act as the main source of account/product/therapy area expertise within McCann Complete Medical and for the client
• Effectively brief all members of the project team on time allocations, target audiences, client’s key messages and schedules, and proactively provide ideas/creative input
 
SCIENTIFIC TEAM LEADER
• Review output for structure, scientific accuracy and creativity, and against the client’s rationale for the work, specific project objectives, key messages, target audiences and consistency with the marketing communication aims
 
WRITING/EDITING (up to 50% according to individual STL)
• Write or edit on a range of communication products to ensure the highest quality in line with client needs and appropriate to audience on a variety of therapeutic areas
• Effectively manage time spent on writing/editing projects versus project management
 
FINANCIAL • Actively contribute to and review project specifications/cost estimates/reconciliations and contribute to account plan forecasts
• Ensure that any request for work outside the original specification is discussed with the client and communicated to the Account Manager, as well as the wider project team
 
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
• Identify new opportunities to maximize existing accounts
• Contribute to, and participate in, new proposal development and pitches
 
GENERAL/OTHER
• Efficiently manage competing projects and delegate appropriately
• Alert colleagues to any potential problems in a timely manner
• Communicate effectively with your agency colleagues and company contacts
• Work within agreed deadlines and budgets
• Follow agency style guidelines and procedures
